Anna Atkins
Anna Atkins was born March 16 1799. She was very famous for her scientific artwork and photography. Anna was the frist woman to invent something related to art in the science industry. She was interested in Cyanotypes and she prodeced images printed onto paper made by the Ultra Vioelt Sunlight.
The process for this- "The substance to be recorded is laid on paper impregnated with ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. When exposed to sunlight and then washed in plain water the uncovered areas of the paper turn a rich deep blue." Soon later in the industry this was called 'Blueprinting'. This technique was particularly used for reproducing architectural and engineering drawings. |
In this lesson sir explained to the group that we will be using the ultra violet light to create our own images.
My first Cyanotype was more complicated where I used a variety of objects to create an abstract look. My favourite thing about this one is how I arranged the objects. The positioning kept the surface area looking busy (which I liked). I also admire how there are brighter sections in specific areas as well as having darker parts. This creates a very dramatic look. As well as that, I like how I created an image by using geometric shapes, including different scale ranges. However nect time I may use some straight lines throughout the image in order to add some dimension to it.
Throughout my second attempt I used simple objects and shapes to create a sophisticated look. My favourite thing about this one is the different edges of the shapes. The complicated edges create a sharp look which I admire. I also like how some parts look as if they are fading into the dark sections. This has created a dramatic contrast effect as the different tones blend well. As well as that I like how there is a great amount of space between the shapes. This also creates a clear understanding of what has been photographed. However next time I may include some thinner shapes to make the image appear a little more busy, so there is more to look at.
